"Oregon" - Awake.

From NBC

Grade: B+

As Awake continues is weird journey of reality bending & fever dreams, ”Oregon” delivers a serial killer thought to be dead & a decision of moving on. As Michael Britton continues to weave between two realities & be dissected by two psychiatrists both worlds continue to face him with different yet connected tasks. On a day where Los Angeles seems to look ever displeasing he discovered a mutilated body tied to a tree during a jog in the green reality & things only seem to get worse from there in what is the action of the story.

As an FBI profiler arrives after the discovery of a body she quickly decides that she is dealing with a copy cat killer of a previous serial killer she believed she shot dead. As Britton uses his unique perspective to solve the murder mystery all signs of the supposed copycat begin to point toward him. Meanwhile in the red reality, Michael’s wife is visiting Portland, interviewing for a job, & while there Michael continues his routine as signs seem to point that his wife does want to move there. In what seems like a very Rabbit Hole-esque story his psychiatrist relates that most marriages fail after the loss of the child as couples begin to grow apart.

While the red reality provides much of the clues for the green, it also holds a much deeper & more emotional weight to the story. As the episode unfolds the serial killer begins to take interest in Detective Britton & his unique situation. ”Oregon” provides a pivotal weight to the series as a whole & as it ignores the attempted suspense of a setup on Michaels accident it adds a deeper & more fearful subject to the series as a whole. As Awake moves between red & green as well as Michaels decision to never improve, the heightened stakes of a deranged killer add more intrigue than the mystery of Michael’s accident being setup by his precinct captain.
