"Nothing As It Seems" - Fringe.

From Fox

Grade: B+

Throughout the season Fringe has been rehashing & taking a different look at cases that seem oddly familiar. We have seen cases that resonate to the core of its characters & as well been thrown the reappearance of David Robert Jones. In ”Nothing As It Seems” the team faces a foe that is not only familiar to Peter & now Olivia but continues to resonate back to David Robert Jones. This time, however, they see the progression take a much different turn as the evolution continues & leads to a much more ominous ending for our porcupined friends.

As the team is told about a passenger on a flight who seemed to act out & have a very odd transformation, Peter see’s the resonance of cases from his timeline to this new overlapped one but also see’s that everything is not playing out exactly as it did before. In what is a very familiar case, new life is breathed in with its ties to Jones & that it is allowed to evolve beyond its earlier constraints much like the creatures are. As the story begins to unfold in a different manner we see how these now merging timelines are having an affect on Olivia who has been suspended from duty due to her changed memory.

Much of ”Nothing As It Seems” plays & pokes fun at the previously told story by bringing a somewhat fresh perspective especially with the addition of Lincoln to the team. That being said, the episode also continues to add more depth to the endgame of this incarnation of David Robert Jones & leads up to a very ominous & yet familiar ending for a familiar story.
