"The Little Guy" - Awake.

From NBC

Grade: D+

The premiere of Awake was a powerhouse of television epic-ness but the follow up was not only a resounding whimper but a white flag to surrender its possible mystery in the worst of ‘FAIL’ ways. Again much of the mystery between realities has strange coincidences but this time while one case goes mostly unresolved much of the one reality & the team behind the series decide that maybe their idea about a dual reality series is too over the head for its audience to understand. By the end of ”The Little Guy” we see Awake may have given itself away in its second episode & decide that they have come up with a better & resoundingly much more worn out mystery.

While in the green reality, Michael & his partner Bird deal with a strange case of sperm donor doctor murder mystery. Meanwhile in the red reality we see only increasingly strange ties that have to do with a strange shooting involving a short man. Thought the episode we see Michael strain to make connections like he did in the premiere & although it seems like hey may be coming across a very large mystery much of it is left unresolved & pilled on-top of by his precinct captain. While the green reality procedural comes off as enticing enough fair for a standard procedural series much of the other half of ”The Little Guy decides to try & create a grander setup which ultimately lets down the episode & the series as a whole.

With creating such a powerful & effective new series & one that could boost the standards of NBC’s drama selections it becomes & hard task to always meet standards & expectations. Though many series fumble it is almost unbelievable that Awake decides that its audience is not smart enough to understand what it is doing by in some ways giving away what is the real reality instead of leaving it a gamble for the audience to decide. Awake could rescue itself in the end by deciding that the other reality is actually the real one but by then much of its initial mystery & excitement will be gone as the team behind it decided to go for something it could not cary in its storyline.
