"Kate Is Enough" - Awake.

From NBC

Grade: B-

Awake deals out another episode of parallels in ”Kate Is Enough” as a former babysitter of his son, Kate, appears very differently to Detective Britton in both realities. As Michael Britton’s therapists continue to try to convince him that their reality is the real one they centralize on the appearance of his for babysitter, Kate, to help him try & spot the difference to no apparent avail. As Michael continues to use cues from both realities to uncover clues for his cases most of his concern in the episode comes from the drastic outcomes of Kate’s life in both realities.

The episode beings in the red reality with a drowning death on a yacht & as Detective Britton & Vega investigate, Britton runs into his former babysitter, now powerful money manager, Kate. As he begins to investigate the mysterious death that occurred he comes to question it being an accidental suicide & something more devious planned by the parties hosts. Meanwhile in the green reality, Michael is noticing his son acting out & while investigating a case dealing with a murder, Kate shows up again this time as a suspect. In the green reality he sees that Kate’s life has taken a completely different & downtrodden turn.

While investigating & using his unique perspective to work both cases, Michael also begins to concern himself with his son, Rex’s, recent outbursts & the dynamic differences between both appearances of Kate. While the procedural is enticing, Awake takes its time to focus on the differences between the realities Michael sees & how he uses them towards both lives he lives. Here is where the real weight of ”Kate Is Enough” is played out & keeps Awake from turning into another boring procedural or the over the top mystery that some of the team behind it wants it to be.
