"The Experiment" - The River.

From ABC

Grade: B+

The final race to find Emmet Cole is on in ”The Experiment” & as the crew soon finds out it may be one of the most deadly as they quickly find the research facility that Cole was left at to be abandoned & in disarray. As the crew navigates through the defunct facility they come across a room full of decomposing bodies as questions soon quickly rise up of what exactly was going on at the facility. In ”The Experiment” the story is able to navigate between a rescue mission, a survival tale, & blends in a much needed backstory to one of its most complicated & mysterious characters Kurt Brynildson, their mysterious mercenary/guide/body guard.

It becomes immediately clear to the crew that the short period of time from the recovered video to their arrival at the facility that something very horrify has occurred. As they begin to search through the facility in hopes of quickly finding cole they slowly begin to uncover the events that transpired during the brief gap of time. The River at the same time blends in moments of Kurt’s backstory through home video shot by him. We soon see that he had a girlfriend who was leaving before him for a job & soon find that Kurts journey through the facility deviates from the crews in hopes of finding her.

In the final leg to find Cole, The River is still able to provide rich backstory & new well laid out horror. In what is a very hard feat for most series, The River is able to pull this off without many hiccups & is able to keep the story lush & taught up until the final moments of the episode. With one episode left, the Magus journey is not over & with everything that has gone in it is clear that the fight to survive is still on.
