"Enemy of My Enemy" - Fringe.

From Fox

Grade: B+

If anything Fringe has come back with a purpose for the continuation of its fourth season. While it may be worrisome whether or not the series continues on is still uncertain but at the level it is firing off the second half of its seasons episode there really is no time to think about it. “Enemy of My Enemy” picks up right where “Back to Where You’ve Never Been” left off & by the end continues to throw us through more loops & remind is just how different this universe is that Peter has landed in.

With the return of David Jones comes a whole new set of fears as it is revealed that he is behind this new set of shape-shifters & that this orange multi-verse has up until now had no clue of his existence & just how much of a threat he is. While he plays into his capture it is evident that everything has been set up by him & showed just how ahead of everyone he is on the chess board. Through the episode that fear is evident on our characters faces in the Walternate universe as we seem him every time in the episode thwart any advance made at him by the Fringe Division thanks to his head inside man being a shape-shifted Colonel Broyles. Early on in his capture though is the only time that we really see Jones thrown off & that is thankfully by the mysterious appearance of Peter & his knowledge & previous experience dealing with Jones. The scene that plays out between Jones & Peter in the interrogation room come off as one of the most tense scenes of the episode thanks in part by the acting prowess of Jarred Harris as Jones & Joshua Jackson as Peter. As well one of the cutest scenes comes from the quick interaction between Peter & alternate Astrid with her reaction to Peter being from a completely different universe.

By the end of the episode it is also clear that Jones has given both universes a universal threat to band together & fight against. Of course things are never that simple as ever those last few minutes continue & deeper and more frightening setup for the seasons story. While many may complain that the series could have ended with season 3 on a bittersweet note, like I have especially with its current uncertainty, the team behind Fringe is so clearly dedicated to the series that the current adventures we are thrown into are worth the worry. Its the fear of the unknown & the dedication to its current built in fans to present deeper serial episodes that make Fringe one of the best sci-fi series currently on television.
