“The Ties That Blind” - Being Human.

From SyFy

Grade: A

In what will most likely go down as the best episode of the second season of Being Human, ”The Ties That Blind” presents just how spectacular a show about monsters can be when not involving teen angst & weirdo teen-vampire-baby-hybrids. From the title alone & its play on words its easy to see where the episode will go after the way the season has been heading. From Josh & his inability to look past anything but trying to cure himself & Nora to her binding ties with the twins to the bond that Josh & Aiden have. ”The Ties That Blind” presents such a much needed force & boil over to the season that it’s anyones guess as to what types of repercussions the night in the woods events will have toward the end of the season. One thing is for sure though is that the first minute of the episode are the most intense & gripping the series has ever been.

As ”The Ties That Blind” starts off its usual episode intro-monologue it’s clear stakes are high as Nora explains the choices of predator & prey as Aiden is running through the woods being chased by a wolf & trying to warn one of the Dutch, Atlee, that there are 4 wolves after them. As Atlee runs off leaving Aiden to seemingly die, the wolf that was chasing him shows arrives & Aiden somewhat recognizes her as Nora before she lunges at him. We then are presented with the morning after in a field where Nora is seemingly awake & distraught, covered with dried blood, & a gash on her chest near her left shoulder. Josh wakes up behind her asking what happened during the night in way that it almost seems as if we are also staring at Nora’s ghost. ”The Ties That Blind” quickly turns on itself & rewinds 24 hours creating a seemingly unbearable tension to learn what exactly transpired that night.

”The Ties That Blind” is able to set itself up so well & deliver on much of its built up Josh storyline in one of the most dramatic ways possible throughout the episode. As the episode paces the glaring obviousness that Josh has taken it upon himself to act so blindly toward his effort to be Nora’s knight in shining armor only becomes more abundant. The episode is able to save Josh & also affirm just how strong the bond is between our little group of misfits exemplified in the bond that Aiden & Josh have. Even as this whole somewhat-culmination is revving up the story does not falter by finally attacking just what has been plaguing Sally & evolving her story in a very gripping way. ”The Ties That Blind” is an episode that is able to bring to bloom just how intricate its story can be & how evolved its monsters as characters are.
