Grade: B
With every two steps forward
Being Human takes it seems to take one step back. Yes, I used that analogy & its true.
“Mama Said There’d Be Decades Like These” is a good episode but compared to
”Addicted to Love’ it could have been better. Though the episode is largely filled with flashbacks dealing with Aiden & Henry’s past we also get a large dose of Mark Pellegrino guest starring in his role as Bishop as well. The great part is that Bishop isn’t just part of the flashbacks either but returns as we see Aiden spiraling out of control & ‘drunk’ on blood. A large part of what makes
“Mama Said There’d Be Decades Like These” so good is conversation that Bishop has with Aiden & the similarities between their relationship & the one that Aiden & Henry have. What seems to take this episode a stem back are the Josh & Sally storylines. While Josh set’s up some major action for upcoming episodes, Sally seems to fall flat. While these steps back aren’t bad & used to slow down the story a bit the level of the groups story seem to suffer at times.
Once Aiden starts seeing Bishop it becomes clear that he is there to convince Aiden to put Henry down. As his story builds upon flashbacks of how Henry came to be his son it is easy to the similarities to the relationship Bishop & Aiden had. Bishop does his part in guiding Aiden on the realities of siring a child of course to see a collision happen much faster in with Aiden & Henry. This leads to a great duel between the two similar to the first seasons ending. Mark Pellegrino is so comfortable in all the roles he takes on that it is a real joy to see him back for an episode. What was even better was the way that Pellegrino was able to continue to grow his character of Bishop even more from his guest appearance. In many ways his appearance is very similar to his character of the devil on
Supernatural & the interactions he has with the character of Sam who is the only one able to see him. This reappearance also closes off Aiden when Josh comes to him for help as he is being questioned in relation to the death of Nora’s ex. This causes Josh to try & solve his problems by enlisting the help of recent Bishop replacement Cecilia by telling her that the twins were the ones who murdered Heggeman.
In the end Sally is left to deal with the weaker storyline involving her mothers recent death in what turns out to be more of a comedic time wasting storyline for her character. While we have just found out from her recent stint possessing people that she is being hunted by a reaper we do not get any real advance in the story.
