Future predictions are always a crapshoot & the best of them are always the vaguest ones out there. There are also the made up Nostrodaumus ones & the late night television crackpots asking you to at least watch their free video online.
”Forced Perspective” deals with a young girl plagued by glimpses into the future & her only resolve is to try & warn the person who is about to die. Based off the believe that traumatic events can reverberate through time & space, & that a butterfly can cause a tornado, its pretty easy to believe like the characters that this girl is just bullshitting until you see our aforementioned victim empaled by a girder. Sadly with a season with such high stakes it feels somewhat cheep to see a procedural pop on towards the end of what has been a great and mysterious return by
Fringe.
The episode follows Emily Mallum, a young girl who sees impending doom/catastrophes all leading up to a major catastrophe involving some type of huge explosion. Of course this is exactly what the Fringe Division needs to deal with as a sort of decompression from the recent incidents with David Jones & it would be the ideal for viewers if it weren’t for the impending doom of the series not being renewed. Of course the team will solve the caper & of course there will be some type of twist to the story but with such a bland one seen time & time again with some sort of involvement to the actions of Massive Dynamic, did you think they would not be involved, it feels old hat unlike the season so far. The real meet of the episode comes from the recent awareness of the Observers by this Fringe team & there tie to September telling Olivia she must die.
If
Fringe is going to intertwine some procedurals back into the season at this point it at the least needs to make sure they are worthy & not something that feels incredibly rehashed with the first and second season cortexiphan kids. With the very little tidbits of the season arc left in the episode there is not much for dire fans to hold on to besides getting overly giddy by an Observer sighting.
Fringe needs to make sure it picks up its game & picks it up fast before the season end to give the fans at least some closure for a very risk taking maybe final season.
