New Girl is the latest comedy by
FOX starring indie 'it' girl Zooey Deschanel, as Jesse Day, & follows her character as she moves in with 3 male roommates after a breakup. Its an odd couple style show with Jesse being an out-there school teacher who at random points will bust out into song. While the show may lack some originality it does make up for it with its witty jokes mostly delivered by Deschanel. The series title intro is also sung by Deschanel & shows more creativity than opting for a popular song like another show with an busty indie actress. While at first it seems to be just a: 'lets make this girl conform' type of show it does show that originality is its key focus & how that bonds these characters together. There is a lot of room for this show to grow &
FOX has put a lot of backing behind it to do so but at the same time they are a station that is not afraid to axe a show if it is not performing to its numbers. Another problem the series faces is the involvement of Damon Wayans Jr. as his series
Happy Endings got picked up for a second season on
ABC & as he is another strong comedy support on this show it will be interesting to see how his situation is handled especially when all the promos have done is changed the title card with other black actor, Lamorne Morris.
