Com. Cont.

Another new series? Why, yes! Com. Cont. will be a somewhat erratic series as I get it off the ground with either posts throughout the week and so forth. Hell, in my mind I plan on it having subsections for different nights of competing comedy. Examples: Com. Cont. Weds; Com. Cont. Thorough Thursdays... Really just the two to focus on Wednesdays ABC comedies & South Park and Thursdays NBC comedies. Just to make sure everyone knows I will not be covering CBS Thursdays because the Big Bang Theory was a mistake to like and I have since corrected that once they decided to do a Bollywood episode ending.

Anyways lets get started with a late review of last Thursdays NBC lineup. (note: The Office "Goodbye, Michael" will be a separate review due to its importance with the farewell of Steve Carrell.)

Community - Applied Anthropology and Culinary Arts

Grade: B

After last weeks overblown clip show I became worried that I would have to start worrying about this show again but I was glad to have such a great episode tonight. Tonight we saw Shirley finally go into labor and have it go all wrong with her having to give birth in her Anthropology class which contained some great guest characters from the series. What was really fun was the side characters recognizing their presence and complaining about having another story centered around the study group. The storyline was also grounded by having the whole episode happen pretty much inside the one classroom.

Here we got to see the horrors of child birth, the selling out of Abed & Troy, the surprising caring of Chang and an annoying amount of the Dean. The small story between Abed & Troy was well contained and small but also very funny. Chang showing strenght and caring to Shirley was very surprising and uncharateristic of the one note character. It still is hard to tell how I feel about the choice but it was nice for the moment. In the end everything wrapped up nicely and we got to have just a fun sort of characteristic Community.

Parks & Rec - Jerry’s Painting

Grade: A-

In some ways last nights episode was a step back and a step forward in momentum for some stories of the season. We see Lesley get the affirmation she needs from a painting made by Jerry that has her as a mighty centaur hunting a deer and Tom as a fat baby cherub. We also got to see Ben trying to settle down in Pawnee and surprisingly move in with Andy & April and try to bring a sense of maturity to their lives of turkey chili served on frisbees. The painting that Lesley fought for was amazing and brought up how insane Pawnee citizens are, including level headed Perd who thinking that centaurs are real and an incredibly religious person fighting the pornography that were the bare breasts of centaur Lesley. While that was happening Tom was fighting for the years he spent cultivating his Jay-Z vibe only to have it replaced by a fat baby vibe that even turned away a budding porn star.

What was great about this episode was that character development went a long way for Jerry. We got to see a little more into that cat infested bed & breakfast loving person. We also dove into learning more about April & Andys lives together which hasn’t really been seen much outside of social situations. All I hope for is that I can one day find a lady who will eat turkey chili off frisbees with me while sharing the same fork. Ron disappeared fast in the episode but not before giving his opinion on the waste that is art and paintings of nature. In the end we got to see the continuation of Ben & Lesleys budding hopeful romance, had another visit with Peard, learned more about Jerry, watched Andy & April grow up a bit and just had another amazing visit to Pawnee.

Ben’s commentary is amazing. First his feelings on Facebook now places “4 stars says nobody”

“were you guys frying marbles?”

Tom: “I will show you a well hidden folder with gigabytes of proof “ Committee Member: “please let the record show that the fat baby is referring to the painting”

“Imagine my horror, I’m hanging upside down in my gravity boots watching Peard...”

30 Rock - Everything Always Sunny All The Time Always

Grade: B-

After the hurtle/grandiose of the 100th 30 Rock episode we return to a semi-normal episode. Here we follow a story where Avery is kidnapped by Kim Jong Il, Liz turns her apartment life around only to have the bliss ruined by a plastic bag and Tracy wanting to recreate the special moments he missed in his entourage. The weakest of the three was Tracy’s story which didn’t go anywhere new for the character although did have some fun moments with Grizz, Dot Com, & Kenneth. Liz’s very small storyline held the weight the best. Here we saw Liz clean up her apartment only to have the tranquility ruined by a stray bag with a smiley face on it stuck in a tree outside her window. Her stress went so far as to cause her to have arguments with the bag throwing out a good back and forth of threats to conclude with multiple bags from a delivery boy to fly into the tree after she thought she had won.

Jack though had the meat of the storyline with the oh so annoying skype/person through the computer scenes which has become the centering on a television and overlaying the image of the 21st century. This thread had its highs and lows concluding with what could be a nice ending if they leave it alone but knowing 30Rock this might not be the end but a segue way to crazy season finale. Needless to say, Elizabeth Banks was given some funny material to work with outside of her computer captioned scenes and in them as well. We also got a great guest spot by Connie Rice who showed she can play herself pretty well.

“Next order of business, Grizz’s dvd reviews of the weekend.” “You wouldn’t expect a movie called ‘Somewhere’ to go absolutely nowhere.”

Turns out Connie’s Favourite movie is Mars Attacks and surprisingly Jack does not approve. For Shame!

- “I will put you in my kitchen and fill you with other bags! You will eat your family!”
