Fringe Renewed for Final 5th Season!

Looks like everyone can stop worrying about which season finale they will see as Fox has renewed Fringe for a final 13-episode 5th season. That episode number will also get the series to the magic 100-episode syndication number. This comes in part thanks to Warner Bros. reducing their episode licensing fee to Fox so they could reach that magic number. It’s no doubt that the producers of Fringe were ready for any possibility as hinted at by John Noble & Joshua Jackson but it looks like things will continue on. With the stupendous announcement it seems that Fox has released a Season 5 trailer with some hints as to what will come. If you dare to gander before the finale follow the jump as usual for the video.

Chloë Sevigny in “Final Talks” To Play Nymphomaniac On American Horror Story.

Fear no more if your Brown Bunny jokes have become incredibly stale as it seems that Chloë Sevigny is in “final talks” to play a nymphomaniac on Ryan Murphy’s horror-themed sex show, it’s like Red Shoe Diaries but with actual horror & not just David Duchovny representing horror as the narrator. Anyway, it seems that this role was written with her in mind & if she joins she will accompany the likes of Maroon 5’s Adam Levine who will play a, get this, “sexy loser.” Gasp. Way to go Ryan Murphy, you continue to class television up like Woody Harrelson did Larry Flint.

The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel Enlists Some Blockbuster Writers.

It looks like Sony wasn’t kidding around about fast tracking their Spider-Man “reboot” The Amazing Spider-Man as a franchise reboot & they have nabbed two blockbuster writers to do it. It seems that Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman, the team behind Fringe, Star Trek, & Mission Impossible: III, have been tapped to write the sequel. There is no doubt that this team has been known to produce gold, especially when JJ Abrams is at the helm, but has also had some recent stumbles with the ill-received, critically & monetary, Cowboys & Aliens. This still, no doubt, holds a lot of promise for the rebooted franchise now staring Andrew Garfield as the resident wall-crawling web-slinger.

"Vagina Panic" - Girls.

Grade: B- If there was a motto for the second episode of Girls it would be: “Stuff that gets up around the sides of condoms.” In another enjoyable episode of Lena Dunham’s series there is still the added let down seen in the pilot. In many ways it’s not for a lack of trying but for a lack of taking risks. In an episode with more awkward sex scenes, again made almost too perfect by Adam Driver, & Zosia Mamet twee talk there is still an inevitable lack of fulfillment by the end. The journey to the end, however, is what holds ”Vagina Panic” up from a plagued ending filled with too much influence from its writers.

"Letters of Transit" - Fringe.

From Fox
Grade: A- With only the most hardcore of fans left watching Fringe it is no surprise that a daring risk like ”Letters of Transit” would be taken transporting the viewer to 2036 with a dystopian future ruled by the Observers & a feeble Fringe team left to police the remaining human population known as “Natives.” Unlike the series previous journey into the future with Peter, by way of the Wave Sink Device, there is no point of reference on why there has been a leap into the future. Even without that notice, Fringe pulls off one of its most daring episodes to date.

Say Hello to “David” The Resident Android of Prometheus.

As Prometheus approaches closer & closer to its premiere date, June 8th, it seems that the marketing team has decided to go “viral” or really what they think is viral. In a loudly pronounced release of their latest viral video we meet Michael Fassbender... I mean David, the Weyland Corporation android that will be accompanying the crew of Prometheus. Really the delight of the whole video is watching the self-aware & emotion processing Michael Fassbender... I mean, David. Really just hit the jump to, like myself, repeat watch Michael Fassbender bring David to life.

"Pilot" - Girls.

From HBO
Grade: B- Warning: The following is an actual review of the pilot episode for Girls & not just an opinionated assessment of privileged white girls. Read on at your own risk. Lena Dunham’s latest venture is the much talked about Girls, a show focused on the neurosis of twentysomething girls living in New York trying to survive. Much like her previous work, Tiny Furniture, Dunham stars, writes, directs, produces, & credits herself in many other roles. As well, Judd Apatow is also attached as a producer for the series & has helped in much of the marketing of the series with clever interviews with Dunham & twitter posts of Girls advertisements around LA. With the promise of a younger, realistic, & somewhat awkwardly hilarious look at the much reviled lives of twentysomethings the bar is set high. What follows in the 30 minute pilot is not the realization of the marketing team behind the series but it is something that holds a lot of potential.

"The Consultant" - Fringe.

From Fox
Grade: B+ With the arrest of Nina Sharp in the red universe things start to look good for the Fringe Divisions as they may finally be able to see what David Robert Jones is planning. That is, until, things start to take a strange turn in the prime universe. With Lincoln Lee now helping out on the other side due to his complex feelings for Olivia we get to see another cross over. This time Walter joins the other Fringe Division as a consultant to help find out just why people in the blue universe are dying the way their counterparts are in the red universe. In an episode that continues the dance of struggle with David Robert Jones we get to see more develop & learn just what Jones may be up to.
